You have broken up and chopped. You have scrambled and stirred. You have blanched and boiled. Now it is time to warmly cook your meal on your conventional electric stove. You turn on the oven and not a thing heats up. Knowing some simple problems for an electric range that you can take care of yourself can perhaps save you significant time and cash.

Be sure there is Electricity for Your Range

An electric stove-top will not heat up if it lacks electrical service. The obvious question that comes to mind is if your electric oven is truly plugged in to an outlet. If it’s all set, check your circuit breaker is set. Check to see if you tripped a breaker. If all checks out up to now, confirm the electric current of the plug utilizing a current checking device like a digital multi-meter. If you don’t have one handy, plugging a blender or something into the outlet can at minimum verify if the electricity is on.

Check the Heating Elements

Verify that your stove is unplugged. Look closely at the heating coil of the burner that is not heating. If the heating element is damaged, get a new element and change the damaged one with the replacement. If the heating element looks OK, put it into a active spot and switch the stove-top on. If the heating coil still refuses to work, buy a replacement and replace the damaged one with the replacement.

When you are peeking around in your stove, yet again with the electricity unplugged, inspect the power terminals. If you notice any corrosion, remove it by the use of fine sandpaper or other fine abrasive material. Do not use steel wool, as the very small pieces can get wedged in the terminals and cause an electrical short when you turn the electricity on.

If the heating element functioned in the active spot, you have a different problem. Unplug the stove again. Keep track of the heating element burner receptacles wires to their running position terminals. Test the wires from a multimeter set to RX1. If the holder fails, you need to remove the receptacle and put a replacement receptacle in its spot.

Extension Cords

Stay away from the use of extension cords with your range in all circumstances. Period.

Always Be Cautious

Electricity can be very dangerous, especially for one who does not have significant background with electrical repairs. If you have any concerns in the slightest about mending your electric stove on your own, ask somebody who has more training to stop in and help you with it.

If you try and can’t seem to figure it out, time to call in a pro.
